Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Expected Release

Season 5 of Yellowstone premiered on November 10, 2022, and the midseason finale on January 1, 2023. Part 2 of the current installment was originally supposed to begin filming in March. But the date was pushed back due to the drama between Costner and Sheridan. Costner wanted to dedicate a single week to filming Part 2, which would be impossible due to his character John Dutton’s screen time.

The filming date continued to be delayed due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA). And Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, one of which is ongoing. If everything had gone smoothly, filming would have begun in March, and Season 5 Part 2 would have been released sometime in November. However, the release of Part 2 depends on when the actor’s strike can end in Hollywood. If things are resolved soon, Part 2 could start shooting by January and premiere as early as summer.

Why Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is being delayed?

On November 10, 2022, Yellowstone’s Season 5 Part 1 made its debut. On January 1, 2023, the midseason finale aired. Originally scheduled to start production in March, Part 2 has been delayed because of the conflict between Costner and Sheridan.

It was almost impossible for Costner to dedicate only one week to filming Part 2. Because of how much screen time John Dutton continually got. According to reports, the actor’s intransigence caused him to become hostile towards others, including Sheridan.

The filming date was getting pushed back due to this controversy. Part 2 couldn’t start filming as a result of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, one of which (the SAG-AFTRA strike) is still continuing. It is unknown if Costner and Sheridan ever reached a deal.

Part 2 now largely rests on when Hollywood’s actor strike may be put to an end. The next batch of episodes can now be developed as the writers are back at work, but nothing can be filmed until an agreement is reached between SAG and the studios.

Part 2 might begin filming by January and make its debut as early as summer if the situation is handled quickly—possibly before the beginning of November. If the actor strike continues past that point, Part 2 might not released until fall 2024.
